Originally in the 1991 cookbook

Part 1

Mix in large pot and brown on low heat, stirring constantly:

  • 3 package dry chicken soup, noodles only!
  • 2 1/2 cups rice
  • 1 cube margarine
  • 2 cups sausage or hamburger, cooked and drained (optional)

Part 2

Add to Part 1:

  • 7 cups hot water
  • – chicken base from noodles
  • – pinch of thyme


  1. Cook on low heat for 50-60 minutes with lid on.
  2. Cooking time depends on the type of rice used, so cook until tender. This may take from 10 minutes to 1 hour.
